A quick look at the map already shows that in only a small number of European countries, electric cars are highly popular. Norway, the Netherlands, Iceland, Sweden and Luxembourg have far more electric cars per capita than any other European country. In only 3 countries the number of registered electric cars account for more 4% of the total number of registered cars: Norway (42%), the Netherlands (15%) and Iceland (8%).

One country that stands out more than any other is Norway. They have more electric cars per capita than any other country in Europe. They also have the second highest number of total registered electric cars (60,008), just behind Germany (60,192). For a country with a population of 5.3 million, that’s pretty impressive.

One of the reasons electric cars are so popular in Norway, is the incentives and benefits the Norwegian governments offers on electric cars. Including big reductions in purchase and road tax.

The data for this map comes from the European Environment Agency.
