In blue we can see all the local government areas in Australia where more than 25% of the population is over the age of 65. In orange are the areas where more 55% of the population is under the age of 35.
Most of the orange areas are in the Northern Territory and the outback. These are mostly rural areas with a small population. A lot of them also have a large aboriginal population.
Orange areas with a larger population are the CBD’s of Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
Most of the blue areas are concentrated in Australia’s south east and south west. With Queenscliffe near Melbourne having the largest percentage of people over 65.
The population data is from 2019 and is gathered from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
