Recently, we looked at the life expectancy in Europe at the regional level. This time, we’re going to look at the life expectancy in Asia in more detail.
We can see that there are some clear differences between countries in Asia. Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Israel have by far the highest life expectancy in Asia. These are the only countries in Asia where the life expectancy is over 81 in every region of the country. Other countries with a fairly high overall life expectancy are Thailand, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE. Th coastal regions of China also have a relatively high life expectancy. However, the contrasts within China are quite big, especially when one goes further inland.
Afghanistan has by far the lowest life expectancy of any country in Asia, with a life expectancy ranging from 60 to 65. Yemen and parts of eastern Indonesia also have one of the lowest life expectancy in Asia.
The data for this map comes from the Global Data Lab.
