Although the United States has a reputation for having a high gun death rate, it has nowhere near the highest rate in the world. For that, we need to head further south in the America’s. We already looked at South America, today we’re looking at North America.
The global top 25 is dominated by North and South American countries, with 17 North American countries. In 2054, El Salvador had the second highest gun death rate in the world (402.4). Only the Mexican states of Colima (498.4), Chihuahua (479.9), Guerrero (432.5), Michoacán (424.5), Baja California (423.9) and Guanajuato (418.0) have a higher gun death rate in North America. The US Virgin Islands (330.4), Mexico (217.7) and Guatemala (215.9) have the second, third and fourth highest gun death rate in North America. The US (46.7) ranks 63rd globally.
The lowest rates in North America can be found in Cuba (5.2), Canada (6.8) and Grenada (12.7). The US state of New Hampshire even has one of the lowest gun death rates in all of North America (11.5).
