This map shows us an interesting and very specific crime statistic, the rate of motorized vehicles that are stolen.
We can see that in most of Europe it’s not too high, but there are some regions that clearly stand out. Italy stands out more than any other country. Especially the south of Italy. The motorized vehicle theft rate in southern Italy is higher than anywhere else in Europe. The European top 10 is dominated with Italian areas.
Other areas with a high motorized vehicle theft rate are Greece, the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, Eastern Germany and parts of Turkey.
Keep in mind that the Eurostat data is based on police reports from each country. The number of unreported vehicle thefts can vary from country to country. This could mean that the real motorized vehicle theft rate might be higher in some areas.
Data for this map comes from Eurostat.
