This map gives us an interesting insight into how many people visit the dentist annually around Europe. As you can see, the numbers vary widely. It is recommended that you visit the dentist 2 times a year for a check-up. As we can see on this map, that’s not the case for quite a few people in some countries.

The numbers seem to be the highest in Central and Northern Europe. The Netherlands (82.4%) and Czechia (80.4%) are the only countries in Europe where more than 80% of people visit the dentist at least once a year. The vast majority of people in Luxembourg (78.9%), Belgium (75.2%), Switzerland (74.8%), Slovakia (71.7%) and Cyprus (71.2%) do visit the dentist at least once a year.

The lowest shares can be found mostly in southeastern Europe. Only 17.9% of Romanians visited the dentist in the past 12 months. In Montenegro (25.3%), Bulgaria (26.3%), Hungary (26.5%) and Serbia (29.5%), that share is also below 30%.

The fact that in some countries most people don’t go to the dentist at all, does not have to mean they have bad teeth. As long as they take good care of their teeth, they should mostly be fine. However, it is still recommended to visit the dentist at least once a year, preferably twice a year, for a check-up. Especially since health insurance in a lot of European countries covers these check-ups.
